as she rests a hand against the cold pane
memories so long forgotten
the shadows cross the rooms
as she shrinks among their hold
wishing them away
the creaks in the floor boards wake the house
as she slips out the door
a ghost in the storm
the leafs dance in the grasping wind
as she spots him standing in the park
a phantom heartbeat in her chest
the fog permeates the air
and she caresses his cheek with a cold touch
tears fall down her cheeks
the tower clock chimes twelve times; midnight
and they imagine themselves in each other's arms
specter and human
